Montauk Services, Inc. offers pigging services and systems for pressure pipeline cleaning for pipe diameters from 2" through 144". In addition to pigging, we perform hydrostatic testing services to 10,000 psi and the drying of lines to minus 80 dew points.
Company ProfileThe needs of every customer are different. As one of North America's oldest and most experienced pigging and testing companies, Montauk Services is able to meet those special requirements with state of the art equipment, OSHA trained and DOT Operator Qualified technicians, and the "know how" rarely found in the industry. "We found the people at Montauk to be knowledgeable, professional, courteous and well prepared, and we would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone contemplating a pigging project of any size." J. Winterstein, Water/Sewer Superintendent, Town of Dickinson "Due to a lower flow than expected from the raw water pumps, we planned to clean (pig) the raw water line going from the pumps at the river to the settling pond. Previously we had divers in to clean off the pump suction screens and also had upgraded the pump from 675 gpm to 800 gpm models. We were operating with a pump discharge pressure of 240 psi and pulling ~120 amps. In the summer we would operate the pumps 24 hours a day in order to keep level in the settling pond. We arranged to pig the lines from the river pumps to the pond reservoir. We had contracted Montauk Services. After about 10 minutes we started getting "heavy" solids (all fine particles) and shortly thereafter the pig came through. We let the pumps run for a couple more minutes to flush the lines and shut the pump down. The indicated flow increased to over 800 gpm and filled the weir quicker than expected. We then pumped down the weir and had 2-3ft. of sediment in the bottom (about 4 tons). The vac truck sucked it out and we started back up and sent another pig through. After the last pig we pumped down and completely cleaned out the weir. We started the pump back and ran to check system out. The water cleared up quickly and we were getting well over 800 gpm flow, meter indicating 950 gpm. The pump discharge pressure dropped from 240 psi to 180 psi. The pump amperage increased from 120 amps to 150 amps." Doug Wetzel, Supervisor, Piney Creek L.P. "For quite some time, our new sludge processing upgrade seemed to be working well. Without warning, we experienced rapid clogging of our lines with grease and other debris. Many suggestions, explanations and remedies were offered, but none seemed to be on target. One of our employees remembered a method of pipe cleaning known as "pigging". A quick internet search produced Montauk Services, and we scheduled a visit from Rex Murphey. He arrived promptly, a plan was developed, the initial parts were purchased, and the system installed. We now clean our pipes every week in about 20 minutes, with no disassembly. Our system runs perfectly now. Many thanks to Rex Murphey and Montauk Services for their expert advice and support, we would recommend them to anyone needing a pipe cleaning/maintenance solution." Jim Kaine/Doug Kahle, Town of Plainville, Water Pollution Control Dept. "The Authority wishes to express our appreciation to Montauk Services for the successful pigging of approximately 20,000 feet of ten-inch cast iron main. This main was originally installed in 1903 and in recent years experienced progressively reduced capacity due to the tuberculation...We estimate the C-factor was increased from below 25 to approximately 92." B.MacEwen, P.E., Chief of Operations , CCA "The assistance of Montauk Services during the planning and construction phase and their professional supervision during the actual cleaning were major factors in the overall success of the pipeline cleaning operation." G. Sparks, Chief Engineer, MDC "The effect of Montauk Services' pigging operation is seen in the results of the pump draw down tests. Prior to the pigging operation, the velocities in the 6" and 4" force mains were 1.5 fps and 2.0 fps, respectively. After the pigging operation, the velocities in each pipe were approximately 3.0 to 3.5 fps. This is a significant improvement because solids will settle out in the existing force mains when velocities are less than 2.0 fps."
