Pigging Restores Intake Flow Capacity Fouled by Quagga Mussels
During the fall of 2018, the City of Toronto initiated a project to clean all three (3) sixty-inch diameter HDPE raw water intakes at the Island Water Treatment Plant, restore intake flow to its original design specification, and reduce plant operating costs. The Island WTP is vital to the City of Toronto.
HYDRAULIC PIGGING FOR WATER FLOW
The Island Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is vital to the city of Toronto as the sole source for year-round deep lake cooling water. During the fall of 2018, the city of Toronto initiated a project to clean all three 60-in. HDPE deep water intakes at the Island WTP, restore flow capacity to its original design specification, and reduce plant operating costs.
Hydraulic Pigs Clear Quagga Mussels from Lake Ontario Intake Pipelines
Hydraulic pipe pigging was utilized by Montauk Services during a recent project in Canada to clean invasive quagga mussels from three large-diameter freshwater intake pipelines. The deep-water intakes, each more than 3 miles long, bring water from Lake Ontario into the Island Water Treatment Plant owned by the city of Toronto.
